Winterfest returns to Lead and it's a celebration of all things winter. The event promises to be jam-packed with activities for all ages, making it an ideal way to beat the mid-winter blues and have some fun. Whether you're a thrill-seeker or a more laid-back individual, there's something for everyone in this year's lineup of events.
On Friday 17th, the day starts with a Chamber Mixer at That Place in Lead, followed by Skate Night at Handley Center. Later in the evening, the Fiery Chicken Wing Challenge takes place at Bob's Silverstar.
On Saturday 18th, the fun begins with a Snowmobile Poker Run at Mystic Hills Hideaway, followed by an Adventure Ski at Eagle Cliff Trails. Wine Tasting takes place at Miners & Merchants Trading Post, and there's also a Library Storytime and Cookie Decorating & Hot Cocoa Bar at Rustic Nook Bakery. The Winter Take and Make Art Booth takes place at Gnarly Pine Space, while the Northern Hills Recreation Association provides a range of activities such as sledding on Alert Street and fire pits, BBQ, and music on the Dakota Shivers deck.
In the afternoon, there's a "Lead Mainer" Parade and Snowball fight, followed by Kid's Games at the Stampmill Patio. A Fat Tire Bike Race known as the "Gold Nugget Giveaway" starts at Axbow Rentals, and there's a Soup Supper at the Rod & Gun Club. Live music by Darin French takes place at Open Cut, followed by a Chili Feed Fundraiser by the Explore Dance Company. A VIP Fireworks Viewing Party with live music by Humbletown takes place at Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center, followed by Fireworks Over the Open Cut. The day concludes with a Winterfest Bonfire at Manuel Brothers Park.
On Sunday 19th, there's a Costume Dog Parade at Golden Ridge Senior Living Center, and all-day adventures such as Cross-Country Skiing, Fat Tire Biking, Snowmobiling, and Sledding at various Lead locations. For more information on equipment rental availability, contact local businesses.
